About Me

Rupert James is a Chartered Professional Accountant ("CPA") in Regina, Saskatchewan, Canada. Now semi-retired, Rupert has held executive positions with the Brandt Group of Companies since 1999 and before that was a partner with Ernst & Young.

Born in England during that country's transition era from steam to diesel and electric, Rupert's parents state that the first complete phrase that he was able to utter as a small child was, "green train, no smoke". Behind the Army house where the family was living at the time there was a busy railway mainline with not only frequent steam and diesel locomotives but also electric commuter trains which were painted green.

The family immigrated to Canada in 1964 and settled in Unity, Saskatchewan where Rupert's father practiced family medicine. Following four years of business school at the University of Saskatchewan, Rupert was hired by Canadian General Electric at one of their southern Ontario facilities. It was while working at CGE that Rupert met and married Sue. In 1982 Rupert decided to obtain his Chartered Accountant designation (now referred to as a CPA in Canada) and joined Clarkson Gordon which became Ernst & Young about a decade later. In 1987 the family moved to Regina for a significant career opportunity. Rupert became a Clarkson Gordon/EY partner in 1990.

Rupert & Sue have a daughter who is an interior designer in Calgary and son who is a CPA in Saskatoon. Rupert enjoys spending time with all of his and Sue's extended family, but especially his five grandchildren, as well as travelling and model railroading. His model railroading hobby provides enjoyable social interaction with club members and others in the hobby while engaging in carpentry, electronics, diorama building and operating a model railway in prototypical fashion.
